FAQs
How is Summer Skill Boost different from your reading intervention services?
Reading intervention is diagnostic, structured, and designed for long-term remediation of reading difficulties such as dyslexia. Before getting started with reading intervention, students must have a full evaluation. Summer Skill Boost is a short-term, targeted program focused on strengthening one specific academic skill.
Can my current Read Write student switch from intervention to Summer Skill Boost?
Students in active remediation should continue intervention to protect their progress. However, they can add additional sessions per week to address other skills over the summer. Students who have met their reading goals may transition into Summer Skill Boost to maintain momentum.
This sounds great but we have a lot of travel this summer. How can I fit Summer Skill Boost in?
You are exactly who we designed this service for! You can choose to come once a week or twice a week. We will aim to have the same day/time every week (e.g. every Tuesday at 1:30 pm) but you can make adjustments as needed. If you are out of town for a week or have another commitment, we will not schedule sessions during that period. Easy!
Can we miss sessions or reschedule?
Summer Skill Boost packages include a set number of sessions scheduled in advance. You can customize when your child attends to fit your busy summer schedule (i.e. no sessions during sleep away camp!). Because the program runs for a limited summer window, sessions are not made up if missed, but you can cancel in advance if something comes up.
What ages do you serve?
Programs are available for rising kindergarten through high school students, depending on the selected skill area.
How do you measure progress?
Each Skill Boost program includes structured curriculum and pre- and post-assessments to measure growth in the targeted area. Parents will receive a summary of their student’s growth at the end of the summer and suggested next steps.
What if we realize my child needs intervention instead?
If during the planning process we determine your child would benefit more from diagnostic reading intervention, we will guide you through the appropriate next steps.
